The Animals at the Zoo

Ah, the wonders of the animals at the zoo.

Maxing, relaxing, and snax-ing on bamboo—the Panda equivalent to Cheetos. I'm going to be sexist here, and assume that this is the male. Why? Because this Panda is bigger than the other one in the enclosure—who was also snacking, below.

The other panda in the enclosure. Mmmm, Cheetos! Aren't they cute?

Even more cute than the last photo.

A napping koala. Cute!

The latest addition to the giraffe exhibit. Cute! (Every animal was cute.)

Three giraffes were having lunch, and apparently, there wasn't enough room at the trough for all of them. Things began to get dicey, with the giraffes nosing each other out of the way to get at the food . . .

. . . somebody got in a snit . . .

. . . and then there were two.

This is a new exhibit. I wasn't aware that the Zoo had added CrackAddicts,* but these are pretty good specimens, don't you think? A male and a female. They're a lot larger in real life than I thought they would be. It's also very interesting to me that they're allowed to roam free on Zoo grounds. This photo was taken before they approached me and tried to take my camera to sell for more rock.

Here they are, trying to work their scam by looking cute. Don't bother, I won't be drawn in by your tricks.

Here's the female again. She followed me onto the SkyTram, trying to get my camera. She's really photogenic, don't you think?

In all seriousness, the lovely and talented WendyB and her sharp and debonair husband Mr.B were in town yesterday, and had a few spare hours, so we went to the San Diego Zoo. I had a great time with them, and hope to see more of them while they're on the West Coast.

*UPDATED TO ADD: I consulted my copy of Identifying CrackAddicts because I had a sneaking suspicion I didn't get the Species name correct. In fact, this variety of CrackAddict is referred to as the East Coast Blackclad Ambling Crackhead, known primarily for its affinity for Prince-style sunglasses and Professorly jackets.

Love all the animal prints. The coat on the East Coast Blackclad Ambling Crackhead is particularly lovely. ENC is there a smooth style and a ruffled style coat in this species?;-)
Looks like you all had a great time.
What fun!:-)

You didn't feed the CrackAddicts, did you? Because they will never leave you alone after that.

Wendy is seriously the cutest.

This is also a good reminder of why I haven't gotten an iPhone or Blackberry yet. I think I'd match my boyfriend (he's already a goner) just like Wendy matches her husband.

My husband is a Crackhead of the professorly jacket species.
LOVE that ruffles jacket on WendyB!

Hmmm. The cuteness ploy didn't work. Today I will suffocate ENC with my giant, inflatable cheeks. Yes, that will do it. The camera will be mine. MINE! Mwah ha ha ha.

omg that koala is the cutest! I could just die. I've never seen one in person before. I like the panda too.

Wendy's sunglasses are the COOLEST. They remind me of Willy Wonka glasses...

La Bel: There is indeed a smooth style and ruffled coat in this species. Thus far, the female has not exposed this trait in my presence, but I suspect there might be more revelations in the coming days. I have spied the subject in an animal print maxi-dress, however.

McGone: I didn't feed them. I spent the whole afternoon trying to ditch them. I found one tethered to the undercarriage of my car when I got home—35 miles from the Zoo. Now I'll have to drive all the way back to return it. I had to lock it in the garage all night. The din was unbearable.

ambika: You said it. Matching isn't such a bad thing. Come on, try it—everyone's doing it. The first one's free! Come on . . . .

WendyB: You gon' try. But it ain't gon' work.

Fashionable Obsessions: The koalas are really cute, and bigger than I thought they'd be. About the size of a raccoon, I suppose. The panda looks to be about 1,000lbs. Quite a difference in "cute."

pretty face: Yes, Willy Wonka, too. That, and Prince.

Iheart: Somehow, I missed your comment. Sorry! I loved the ruffled jacket, too. I tried to get it away from her, but she wasn't having it. :(

Such a lovely post - again! I do really love the sleeping koala. I actually love koalas and was really upset to find out that they are quite vicious little beeps!

Whatever you do, don't give them money, it will all go towards minutes.

The photos of the panda bears turned out great! I also think it's cute how you wrote about your friends Wendy and Paul as animals roaming free in the zoo. hehe

I'm so jealous that you all get to hang out at the San Diego zoo! Great post, E. K

If only I'd known, I could have fedex'd over my taser. I've read if the addiction is still in it's early stages a shock of 20 000 volts will force the addict to drop 'n roll giving you enough time to high-tail it out of there!

enc said...

Clothes Horse: Mine too!

Pamcasso: ;)

atelier: These pandas are reknowned, and they've been breeding. Maybe they'll make a baby that can come live in your zoo! I love giraffes, too.

Make Do: I didn't know koalas had a mean streak. I'll scratch my plan to steal one!

CDP: Thanks for the warning!

dcr: :)

yulanda: Cute overload.

altamiranyc: I got lucky—all the animals were great models. After I slipped them each a 20. Not W and P, though, I didn't give them anything. I just promised to, and rooked them.

K.Line: I live about 35 miles away from the SD Zoo, so I can go every day if I want to! :P

Imelda: I'll be with this species again next week, and may need that taser. Please forward it anon.

What a totally bizarre and awesome post.

As with Gladiators, I'm probably alone in thinking pandas are nt cute.

Thomas: I like the surprise. I also like to go for the laugh, even if it seems incongruous with the general tone of my posts.

I admire your taste, as I've said before over at your place, and I admire your trueness-to-self in bucking trends you don't care for. Keep on bucking. It makes things interesting.

I love her sunglasses

aziza: That doesn't surprise me! ;) She has a couple of different pairs of round sunglasses.
